Weighted empirical likelihood inference

چکیده
A weighted empirical likelihood approach is proposed to take account of the heteroscedastic structure of the data. The resulting weighted empirical likelihood ratio statistic is shown to have a limiting chisquare distribution. A limited simulation study shows that the associated con*dence intervals for a population mean or a regression coe+cient have more accurate coverage probabilities and more balanced two-sided tail errors when the sample size is small or moderate. The proposed weighted empirical likelihood method also provides more e+cient point estimators for a population mean in the presence of side information. Large sample resemblances between the weighted and the unweighted empirical likelihood estimators are characterized through high-order asymptotics and small sample discrepancies of these estimators are investigated through simulation. The proposed weighted approach reduces to the usual unweighted empirical likelihood method under a homogeneous variance structure. c © 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Empirical likelihood inference for censored median regression with weighted empirical hazard functions
In recent years, median regression models have been shown to be useful for analyzing a variety of censored survival data in clinical trials. For inference on the regression parameter, there have been a variety of semiparametric procedures. However, the accuracy of such procedures in terms of coverage probability can be quite low when the censoring rate is heavy. In this paper, based on weighted...
متن کاملComputation of the Empirical Likelihood Ratio from Censored Data
The empirical likelihood ratio method is a general nonparametric inference procedure that has many desirable properties. Recently, the procedure has been generalized to several settings including testing of weighted means with right censored data. However, the computation of the empirical likelihood ratio with censored data and other complex settings is often non-trivial. We propose to use a se...
متن کاملApproximating Bayesian inference by weighted likelihood
The author proposes to use weighted likelihood to approximate Bayesian inference when no external or prior information is available. He proposes a weighted likelihood estimator that minimizes the empirical Bayes risk under relative entropy loss. He discusses connections among the weighted likelihood, empirical Bayes and James–Stein estimators. Both simulated and real data sets are used for illu...
متن کاملEmpirical likelihood inference for regression model of mean quality-adjusted lifetime with censored data
The authors consider the empirical likelihood method for the regression model of mean qualityadjusted lifetime with right censoring. They show that an empirical log-likelihood ratio for the vector of the regression parameters is asymptotically a weighted sum of independent chi-square distributions. They obtain an adjusted empirical log-likelihood ratio which is asymptotically standard chi-squar...
متن کاملJackknife Empirical Likelihood for Smoothed Weighted Rank Regression with Censored Data
Rank regression is a highly-efficient and robust approach to estimate regression coefficients and to make inference in the presence of outlying survival times. Heller (2007) developed a smoothed weighted rank regression function, which is used to estimate the regression parameter vector in an accelerated failure time model with right censored data. This function can be expressed as a U -statist...
